The science

Rose water is the flower water coming from the flowers of the Damask Rose. Flower waters, also known as hydrosols, are diluted versions of essential oils coming from the same plant. They contain the same components found in essential oils of that plant but in much-reduced concentrations.

Rose petals are steeped or steam-distilled in water in order to isolate the plant’s essential oils - and that's how rose water is made. Rose water is a gentle astringent that can soothe irritated skin and scalp. It is also a natural conditioner and moisturizer because it contains flavonoids and vitamins A, B3, C, D, and E. Rose water also has calming effects because of its sugars. Because rose water has a pH similar to that of the hair, it is also known to stabilize the hair's pH balance. It can also repair the hair's damaged porosity. Because of its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, it can reduce dandruff and fight fungal infections.
